Ikorfat [ iˈkɔfːatˢʰ ] (according to the old spelling Ikorfat ) is a desolate Greenlandic settlement in the Ilulissat district in Avannaata Kommunia .

location

Ikorfat is located on a peninsula at the mouth of the Torsukattak in the Sullorsuaq (Vaigat). Qeqertaq is only six kilometers to the northeast .

history

Ikorfat was first mentioned in 1793 when there was an inhabited house there. After that, the place was probably uninhabited for around 100 years. It was not until the 1890s that Ikorfat was repopulated. From 1911 the residential area belonged to the municipality of Qeqertaq.

In 1915 the residential area had 22 residents who lived in four houses. There were eight hunters, one fisherman, and especially a woman was employed as a reader. Ikorfat never reached 30 residents. In 1950 Ikorfat became part of the municipality of Vaigat . The residential space was given up again in 1952.
