Tartunaq [ ˈtɑtːunɑq ] (according to the old spelling Tartunaĸ ) is a deserted Greenlandic settlement in the Ilulissat district in Avannaata Kommunia .

location

Tartunaq is located on the north bank of the Sullorsuaq (Vaigat) eleven kilometers west-northwest of Saqqaq . The place is in flat green area on a long white sandy beach. Next to Tartunaq is a headland that tapers symmetrically concavely. After around 700 m both sides touch, but another one and a half kilometers further there are several islands up to 250 m long but only 30 m wide, which continue the headland far into the sound.

history

Tartunaq was first mentioned as inhabited in 1805, when 57 people lived there. In 1816 Tartunaq had no residents. In 1823 the place was inhabited again and a teacher was employed. In 1827 and 1850 nobody lived in Tartunaq again. The place was inhabited again from around 1885.

In 1915 the residential area had 18 residents who lived in two houses. In 1918 the population had risen to 40 people and a trained catechist was employed. Between 1930 and 1950 Tartunaq had between 22 and 30 inhabitants. Tartunaq belonged to the Saqqaq municipality until 1950. He then became a part of the municipality of Vaigat . In 1954 the residential space was given up.
