Ataartaa [ aˈtɑːˌtːaː ] (according to the old spelling Atârtâ , also Ataa ) is a desolate Greenlandic settlement in the Ilulissat district in the Avannaata Kommunia .

location

Ataartaa is located on the south coast of the Nuussuaq peninsula on Sullorsuaq (Vaigat). Ataartaa was by far the northernmost place in the colonial district. Directly to the east is the Kussinersuaq Delta of the Ataata Kuua River . Qullissat is 25 km south . The next inhabited place is Qaarsut on the other side of the peninsula. The distance to Saqqaq is 52 km to the southeast.

history

Ataartaa was actually Ataa, but was to distinguish it from 99 km to the southeast lies also in the district of Ilulissat place Ataa notwithstanding Ataartaa called. In 1907 twenty to thirty Saqqaq residents moved here and settled in three houses. A small shop was set up for supplies. The place turned out to be very suitable for hunting. As early as 1910, however, the living space was given up again, which was probably a forced relocation because the residents of Saqqaq did not agree with the fishing activities in Ataartaa.
