Illorsuit [ ˌiɬːɔsːuitˢʰ ] (the old spelling Igdlorssuit ) is a desolate fallen Greenlandic settlement in the district Ilulissat in Avannaata Come Unia .
location
Illorsuit is located on a peninsula between the Torsukattak and Qeqertap Ilua . Qeqertaq is a good four kilometers northwest.
history
Illorsuit was first mentioned in 1793 when a house with 22 unbaptized Greenlanders was found there. According to the place name, however, several "large houses" must have been in the place beforehand. In 1795 Illorsuit was abandoned. Subsequently, the place was uninhabited for over 100 years.
Illorsuit was not repopulated until 1907 and was part of the municipality of Qeqertaq from 1911 onwards. In 1915 there were 14 residents who lived in two houses. Among them were only a hunter and a fisherman. Just one year later, the residential space was given up again.
