Avannaata Communia
The Avannaata Come Unia is since 1 January 2018, Greenland municipality square kilometers with a population of about 10,600 inhabitants and an area of 522,700.
location
The Avannaata Communia covers the north-westernmost part of Greenland. While the Northeast Greenland National Park is to the east, the municipality of Qeqertalik is to the south . To the southeast there is a border with Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq . Within the municipality is the municipality-free area Pituffik .
history
In 2016 it was decided to dissolve Qaasuitsup Kommunia on January 1, 2018. The Avanaata Kommunia receives the four northern districts of the Qaasuitsup Kommunia, i.e. the districts of Qaanaaq , Upernavik , Uummannaq and Ilulissat .
