Qeqqata communia
Qeqqata Kommunia ( German Mittelkommune ) is a large Greenlandic municipality with a population of 9,295 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2018). Qeqqata Kommunia covers an area of 115,500 km². The seat of the local government is in Sisimiut .
location
The Qeqqata Kommunia is located in the southwest of Greenland. In the north the municipality borders on the municipality of Qeqertalik , in the south and east on Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq .
history
The Qeqqata Kommunia was founded on January 1st, 2009 by amalgamating the previous municipalities of Sisimiut and Maniitsoq , two municipalities of the former Kitaa administrative district . The coat of arms designed by Rita Bornhuus shows two large and six small stars, which symbolize the cities of Sisimiut and Maniitsoq and the smaller settlements ( Kangerlussuaq , Sarfannguit , Itilleq , Kangaamiut , Napasoq and Atammik ) of the municipality.
