Hermann Leif Josef David Berthelsen (born March 2, 1956 in Sisimiut ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Siumut ) and teacher .

life and career

Apart from a year abroad in Gelsted, Hermann Berthelsen attended the school in Sisimiut, which he graduated in 1974. Two years later he passed his higher preparatory examination in Birkerød . He then attended Ilinniarfissuaq , where he trained as a teacher until 1979, when he worked in his hometown until 1999. He has two daughters with his wife, Nuka Olsen. From 1982 to 2002 he was chairman of Grønlands Badminton Forbund .

Berthelsen began his political career from 1982 to 1985 as chairman of the Siumut youth party in Sisimiut. In 1983 he became a member of the council of the municipality of Sisimiut and immediately second deputy mayor. He was a member and chairman of many municipal council committees, especially from 1983 to 1999 chairman of the technical committee. In 1999 he became mayor of his home parish and remained so until the administrative reform in 2009. From 2009 he was mayor of the new Qeqqata Kommunia for two terms . In the local elections in 2017, he did not run again after 18 years as mayor. In the 2018 parliamentary elections , he received the second most votes for the Siumut and thus moved into the Inatsisartut . He was on sick leave between October 2018 and January 2019.

On July 10, 2015, he was honored with the Nersornaat in silver for his political services . He is also a knight of the Dannebrog Order .
