The Inatsisartut (completely Greenlandic Kalaallit Nunaanni Inatsisartut , Danish Grønlands Landsting ) is the parliament of Greenland .
The Inatsisartut was created in 1979 with the introduction of the limited autonomy of Greenland. Its forerunner was the Greenland Provincial Council (Danish: Grønlands Landsråd ), which was formed in 1950 from the Provincial Councils for North and South Greenland (since 1911).
Constitutional position
The 31 members of the Inatsisartut are elected for four years in a general, direct and secret ballot (Act on Parliament and State Government, Section 2). They elect the head of government from their ranks , who then puts up his cabinet list en bloc for election (§ 22). If the parliament withdraws confidence in the state government (Grönl. Naalakkersuisut , Danish landsstyre ) or the head of government, the government must resign as a whole (Section 27). In this case, the head of government can call for immediate new elections (Section 28). The government continues to conduct business until its successor is elected (Section 29).
The negotiating language in Inatsisartut is Greenlandic; if a member of parliament or minister does not speak this language, a translation into and from Danish is guaranteed (§ 9). Clause 13 gives every member of parliament and government the right to introduce a bill .
Parliament exercises the budget right (§§ 16, 17).
