Martin Winklbauer (born December 25, 1957 in Halsbach ) is a German farmer who is also active as an author and director of folk plays. He is also committed to the Halsbach Theater , which he played a key role in founding, and in some of the plays he staged there himself appeared as an amateur actor.

life and work

Martin Winklbauer already wrote short skits and scenes during his time with the rural youth and discovered his poetic talent. He became a farmer and now runs a 26  hectare large agricultural family , the playground at Halsbach in Upper Bavaria district Altoetting . At the same time he began to write plays for folk theater and to perform them publicly as a director with various amateur theater groups . In 1984 he created his first historical play, The Black Year , which now attracts thousands of visitors every year as an open-air performance.

In his folk plays, Winklbauer works on historical events from his home region and also deals with the life images of great personalities, such as the holy brother and Swiss patron saint Nikolaus von Flüe ( the farmer in the cowl ), the Austrian conscientious objector and Nazi victim Franz Jägerstätter ( The Legacy ), the Spanish Dominican and Indian missionary Bartolomé de Las Casas ( The year of the dark sun ), the Munich church builder Jörg von Halspach (play of the same name) or Brother Konrad, the Capuchin lay brother from Altötting . Among other things, he also wrote a play in Bavarian dialect ( Heislahoizat - Se gahnt binanner ).

In addition to his home theater in Halsbach , Winklbauer's plays have also been performed in the Piesinger Theaterstadl in Haiming in the Altötting district since 1990 , for which he wrote several historical theater plays. Some of his plays have been published by Winklbauer in the Morsak Verlag in Grafenau and in the Forum-Verlag Riedstadt in Riedstadt and are also in public libraries, which has made his work known nationwide.

Martin Winklbauer is married to Hannerl Winklbauer. The couple have five children.
