The Argentine National Congress (Spanish: Congreso de la Nación Argentina ) is the legislature of Argentina (see for details Political System of Argentina # Legislative ).

It is a bicameral parliament and consists of a Chamber of Deputies and a Senate. Most of the time, voting takes place at different times in the provinces. The seat of the congress is the Argentine Congress Palace in the Plaza del Congreso.

Argentinian women got the right to vote in 1947 through Eva Perón's influence on her husband, President Juan Perón .

Chamber of Deputies

The number of members of the Chamber of Deputies is determined by proportional representation and is distributed over the provinces according to a certain key, it amounts to about one member per 152,000 inhabitants. The MPs are elected for four years, with half of the MPs every two years.

The number of senators is three for each province and three for the autonomous city of Buenos Aires . In contrast to the Chamber of Deputies, the Senate is elected according to a special case of majority voting: the party with the most votes receives two Senator seats, and the party with the second most votes receives one seat. The senators are elected for a period of six years, with a third of the senators elected every two years.
