The General Assembly of Uruguay (Spanish Asamblea General ) is the legislative body of the State of Uruguay .

It is divided into a bicameral system , consisting of the Chamber of Deputies ( Cámara de Representantes ) and the Senate ( Cámara de Senadores ), and is located in the capital Montevideo in the Palacio Legislativo .

The meetings of the Asamblea General begin on March 1st of each year under Article 104 of the Uruguayan Constitution. If there are no elections, the session closes on December 15th. In the case of elections to be held, however, this time has been moved forward to September 15. In such a case, the session of the following year begins on February 15th.

The Vice-President of Uruguay chairs the General Assembly. This is Danilo Astori in 2012 . If no vice-president has been determined after an election, the management function is assumed by a senator from the list (party) that has received the most votes.
