Argentine Congress Palace
The Argentine Congress Palace ( Spanish Palacio del Congreso de la Nación Argentina ) in Buenos Aires is the seat of the Argentine National Congress .
The building is located in the Balvanera district on the Plaza del Congreso . The Avenida de Mayo connects the plaza with the Casa Rosada , the seat of the Argentine President. The building complex with an area of 12,079.60 m² is delimited by Avenida Rivadavia , Combate de Los Pozos, Avenida Entre Ríos and Calle Hipólito Yrigoyen.
The building was designed by the Italian architect Vittorio Meano and completed by the Argentine architect Julio Dormal . It was built between 1898 and 1906 and inaugurated the same year it was completed. Nevertheless, details were only gradually completed by 1946. The sculptor Lola Mora decorated the inner halls and the outer sides with numerous bronze allegories. The Congress Palace was added to the list of National Historic Monuments of Argentina . Since the National Congress became too small for its intended purpose over time, it was expanded in 1974 with an annex for the offices of the members of parliament.
