List of National Historic Monuments of Argentina
The National Historic Monuments of Argentina are structures (" structures " in the broadest sense) in Argentina that have been declared Historic Monuments by decree. The appointment includes protection by the Comisión Nacional de Museos, Monumentos y Lugares Históricos (National Commission for Museums, Monuments and Historic Places) from 1940. Some Argentine provinces also have their own lists of historical monuments.
The list includes around 400 structures. Most of them date from pre-Spanish or colonial times, with some being battlefields or other places associated with Argentine independence. In recent years, the government has endeavored to include structures that are exemplary of industrial heritage or immigration history.
However, the Commission has been criticized for not doing enough to protect the structures that have been recorded or only to record them after they have been modified or partially demolished.
