Pilar, Buenos Aires.

Pilar is the capital of the Partidos of the same name (administrative district) and is located in the province of Buenos Aires . The city had 226,517 inhabitants in 2001.

In Pilar, the Treaty of Pilar was signed on February 23, 1820 , with which the basis for Argentine federalism was created. Because of this event, Pilar is now known as the “cradle of the state”. The treaty ended the war between the provinces of Entre Ríos and Santa Fe against Buenos Aires.

Pilar grew rapidly in the ten years before 2006. This also resulted in rapid economic development. Since then (as of 2006) the city has been an exclusive residential area in which many wealthy families own houses in a gated community . In addition, with 16 polo clubs , Pilar is the unofficial capital of polo in Argentina.
