Annex (architecture)
An annex (from the Latin annexum for "appendage") stands in architecture for an object that is attached to a main building in the form of a lower extension or component. This can be attached to a tower , for example, or as an extension to a church .
The pastophorium , for example, can be designed as an annex , which serves as a changing room (diaconal) for the priest and storage room ( prothesis ) for liturgical equipment at the eastern end of the aisles of some basilicas .
The fortificatory term "annex battery" refers to a covered facility, equipped with artillery, which belongs to a fort, but was built outside of this fort for various reasons.
