The Architects Collaborative

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Architects Collaborative (TAC) was an American architecture firm .

In 1946, at the age of 62 , Walter Gropius founded an architecture firm in Cambridge , Massachusetts . His partners in founding the office were the much younger architects Norman Fletcher, Jean B. Fletcher, John C. Harkness, Sarah P. Harkness, Robert S. McMillan, Louis A. McMillen and Benjamin C. Thompson. The office worked according to the team idea and was particularly active in the field of university and campus architecture as well as administrative architecture. One of the most famous buildings is the former Pan Am Building (1960–63), now the MetLife Building , in New York. The field of activity also included product design, for example the design for the Rosenthal 'Gropius' dinner service (1968) by the ceramicist Katherine de Souza , who worked at TAC in the late 1960s. The office had several international branches and existed until 1995.
