Lomagne
The Lomagne ( Gaskognisch Lomanha (classic) Loumagne (after Mistral )) is a landscape in the northeast of Gascony in the border area of the departments Gers and Tarn-et-Garonne .
location
Lomagne is about 80 to 120 kilometers northwest of Toulouse; geographically it consists of the lower reaches of the Gers and areas further east bounded by the Garonne .
history
In the Middle Ages, Lomagne belonged to the vice counts ( vicomtes ) of Lomagne . Lectoure is the historic capital of Lomagne , although Fleurance has grown significantly in population over the past 200 years.
Pilgrimage route (Via Podiensis)
Two places in Lomagne were stops on the pilgrimage ( Via Podiensis ) to Santiago de Compostela : Lectoure and La Romieu .

There is no bigger city in Lomagne - the most important places are:
- Lectoure (approx. 3700 inhabitants)
- Beaumont-de-Lomagne (approx. 3800 inhabitants)
- Fleurance (approx. 6500 inhabitants)
economy
To this day, Lomagne has remained an agricultural landscape. In addition to wheat and maize , the main crops are garlic ( ail blanc de lomagne ). In the vicinity of Lectoure, sugar melons ( cucumis melo ) have been produced for the French market since the 1950s .
