Emil Abelsen

Eli Peter Emil Abelsen (born July 29, 1943 in Qaqortoq ; † February 6, 2005 ) was a Greenlandic politician ( Siumut ).

Life

Emil Abelsen graduated in law in 1974 and was then employed in the Secretariat of Grønlandsråd and in Grønlandsministeriet . During his training in Copenhagen he was chairman of the Young Greenlanders Council. In 1979 he became the government's first acquisitions director. In 1985 he became the government's economic director and a year later head of the secretariat for Grønlands Arbejder Sammenslutning . In autumn 1987 he replaced Hans Pavia Rosing, who had migrated to the Folketing, as Minister of Economics in the Motzfeldt IV cabinet . After the collapse of the coalition, the Motzfeldt V cabinet was formed as a minority government and Emil Abelsen took over the Ministry of Economics, Trade and Transport. In 1991 he was elected to the Inatsisartut for one legislative period . From 1995 to 1996 he was the first parliamentary ombudsman, who was replaced by Vera Leth , who is still in office today . On February 4, 1997, he received the silver Nersornaat . He was the illegitimate son of Marie Abelsen and the father of the future Minister Maliina Abelsen (* 1976).
