Vera Leth

Vera Arnatsiaq Leth (born Jensen ; born July 4, 1958 in Qullissat ) is a Greenlandic lawyer . She is the ombudswoman of the Inatsisartut .

Life

Vera Leth is the youngest daughter of Jørgen Eli Andreas Fredrik Jensen (1920–2005) and Magdalene Vilhelmine Birgitte Bolette Olsen (1921–1988). She went u. a. to school in Aasiaat and Helsingør . After graduating from high school, she worked as an assistant teacher in Ilulissat and decided to become a teacher. In 1979 she started at Grønland's seminarium , but the desired combination of subjects, Greenlandic and English, was rejected because it was believed that she had not had enough Greenlandic lessons. In 1981 she dropped out of teacher training and began studying law at the University of Copenhagen . In 1983 she married the Danish economist Henrik Leth (* 1961). She graduated in 1988 and began working as a lawyer in Nuuk . In 1991, she began working as an agent for the government. In October 1996, an offer was made to her to succeed Emil Abelsen as the ombudswoman of Parliament, to which she was appointed in February 1997. She continues the office to this day. On June 22, 2018, she received the Nersornaat in gold.
