Josef "Tuusi" Motzfeldt (born November 24, 1941 in Igaliku ) is a Greenlandic politician and teacher .

Life

Josef Motzfeldt was trained as a teacher, which he completed in 1969 in Hjørring , and finally worked as such and as a school inspector in Uummannaq from 1972 to 1984 . From 1995 to 1997 he was the head of the sheep breeding school in Upernaviarsuk .

He is a member of the Inuit Ataqatigiit and was elected to the Greenlandic parliament Inatsisartut for the first time in 1987 . As early as April 1988, however, he was replaced by his party colleague Aqqalukasik Kanuthsen . Nevertheless, he was re-elected in 1991, as well as in 1995, 1999, 2002, 2005 and 2009. It was not until 2013 that he left parliament. From 1994 to 2007 he was party chairman of the IA. Without sitting in Parliament, he was Minister for Trade and Vocational Training in Naalakkersuisut from 1984 to 1987 , Minister for Trade, Transport and Youth from 1987 to 1988, Minister for Economy and Trade from 1999 to 2001, Finance and finally from 2002 to 2003 from 2003 to 2007 for Finance, External and Nordic Cooperation. From 2009 to 2013 he was President of Parliament.

He was also a member of the West Nordic Council from 1985 to 1988, from 1991 to 1999 and from 2007 to 2009 , and was its President from 2009 to 2010 and from 2012 to 2013. From 1988 to 1991 he was the head of information for KNR and from 1989 to 1993 a member of the Nuuk Township Council . From 1989 to 1992 he was also a member of the Inuit Circumpolar Council . He was also a member of the administration of Nunafonden (1984–1988, 1991–1999, 2005–2007), Great Greenland (1991–1995), Royal Greenland (2001–2002) and the establishment committee for a knowledge and information center in Igaliku (2001–2009 ). He was also Chairman of Nunafonden (2003-2005), Royal Greenland (1991-1995) and South Greenland Tourisme (1996-1998). From 2000 to 2004 he was chairman of the Greenland Adventure Race, from 2005 to 2007 board member of the Greenland Art Museum and later administrative chairman of the Greenland National Art Gallery . In 1984 he was the screenwriter of the film Tukuma .

For his work he was awarded the silver Nersornaat in 1997 and gold in 2013.

family

Josef Motzfeldt and his wife Vivi have three daughters and a son, including their daughter Nukâka (* 1971), an actress who is married to the Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (* 1970), with whom she has two daughters.
