Naalakkersuisut

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Naalakkersuisut ( Danish Grønlands Landsstyre , German  Greenland state government ) is the Greenland government . The government consists of the Prime Minister , who is elected by the Greenland Parliament, the Inatsisartut , and the ministers , who are proposed by the Prime Minister. A non-partisan ombudsman appointed by Parliament oversees the work of the Naalakkersuisut.

history

Since the beginning of the 1960s, the national movement in Greenland with its demand for self-government has grown stronger. In 1975 a Greenland-Danish commission with equal representation was formed to draw up an autonomy law based on the Faroe Islands model . As a result of the negotiations of the commission, a corresponding law was passed by the Folketing in 1978. In the subsequent referendum in Greenland on January 17, 1979, the great majority of Greenlanders voted for this autonomy law (hjemmestyreloven) . On May 1, 1979, Greenland finally achieved its self-government and internal autonomy with its own parliament and government ( Naalakkersuisut ). The first Prime Minister was Jonathan Motzfeldt . Since then, Greenland has existed as a “ nation within the Kingdom of Denmark”. Another referendum took place on November 25, 2008, with the replacement of the Statute of Autonomy, which had been in force since 1979, with a self-governing system. It was implemented on June 21, 2009.
