Suffrage
The 31 members of the Inatsisartut are elected in multiple constituencies using proportional representation . In the allocation of seats, only parties or lists that overcome an explicit blocking clause amounting to 2% of the valid votes cast are taken into account . The seat assignment is done according to the D'Hondt method .

consequences
In the election, Siumut , the strongest party to date, lost significantly in votes. The same is true of Democraatit and Atassut . The Inuit Ataqatigiit was the only party to benefit from this . It was by far the strongest force in the Inatsisartut and together with the Demokraatit and the Kattusseqatigiit Partiiat formed the new government ( Kleist cabinet ) with a large parliamentary majority. It replaced the coalition of Siumut, Inuit Ataqatigiit and Atassut. The newly founded, according to its own statements, the liberal-socialist Sorlaat Partiiat failed to enter parliament. On June 12, 2009 Kuupik Kleist (IA) was elected Prime Minister .
