consequences

The last only second strongest party, Siumut , achieved its best result since the 1984 election and won the elections by a large margin over the strongest Inuit Ataqatigiit , which lost a significant amount of votes. The smaller parties Demokraatit , Atassut and Kattusseqatigiit Partiiat also lost noticeably. The latter is no longer represented in the Inatsisartut. The newly founded Partii Inuit moved into parliament with two seats. It is striving for independence from Denmark and had split off from the Inuit Ataqatigiit because the party had moved away from its original values under government responsibility. In particular, the economically liberal exploitation of resources and the elimination of small communities by large communities remote from the citizenry was criticized.

Aleqa Hammond (Siumut) became the new Prime Minister of Greenland on April 5, 2013. The Siumut formed the new coalition government together with the Atassut and the Partii Inuit.
