General election in Greenland 1975
On April 10, 1975, elections to Grønlands Landsråd were held for the seventh and final time . The number of eligible voters was 24,286, the turnout 66.8%.
Suffrage
Two to eight candidates were available for election in each of the 16 constituencies, of which the candidate with the highest number of votes ( relative majority ) was elected. In addition, a compensation mandate could be obtained for a party or list if their candidates together achieved more than one sixteenth of the valid votes cast. No parties ran for this election, but a few lists. However, as in the previous elections, most of the candidates were independent individual candidates.
Starting position
In the Greenlandic Landsråd, elected in 1971, there were 16 independent members as well as a representative of the Greenlandic Fishermen's and Hunters Organization (KNAPK). The regional council chairman was Lars Chemnitz , his deputy Jonathan Motzfeldt .
Participating lists
In addition to the independent candidates, four different lists stood for election:

List results
In order to receive a compensation mandate, a list had to receive more than 960 votes. That was the case with the GAS list. Thus her most elected candidate Ôdâĸ Olsen was chosen. The KNAPK list, on the other hand, did not receive any additional mandate, as it was already represented with two directly elected mandates. The other two lists remained below the required number of 960 votes.
consequences
The election led to a strengthening of the list candidates. A total of three non-independent candidates were able to obtain mandates. The Greenland Fishermen and Hunters Organization (KNAPK) won two of them directly, while the trade union federation (GAS) received a compensation mandate. The remaining 14 seats were won by independent individual applicants.
Lars Chemnitz was re-elected as chairman of the regional council and Jonathan Motzfeldt as his deputy. The next parliamentary election in 1979 took place under the changed rules of the Hjemmestyre and led to a parliament ( Inatsisartut ) with significantly expanded powers.
