Marco Benedetti

Marco Benedetti (born August 20, 1950 in Pisa ) is an Italian EU official. Since 2004 he has headed the European Commission's General Directorate for Interpretation as Director General .

Marco Benedetti studied chemical engineering at the University of Pisa in 1976 and obtained a bachelor's degree from the Lycée Michelet in Paris. From 1976 to 1978 he initially worked in research. He then joined what was then the Joint Interpreting and Conference Service of the European Commission. After various career stages, he became General Director of the newly established General Directorate for Interpreting on January 1, 2004. During his tenure, the number of official languages ​​increased significantly due to the enlargement of the EU.
