Ôdâĸ Knud Sivert Olsen [ uːˈtɑːq knuð ˈsiːwɐt ˈoːlsn̩ ] (according to the new spelling Oodaaq ; * December 31, 1928 in Sisimiut ; † December 31, 1992 ) was a Greenlandic trade unionist and councilor .

Ôdâĸ Olsen was elected chairman of Grønlands Arbejder Sammenslutning (GAS), the Greenlandic workers' union, in 1963 . He stood for Nuuk in the election to Grønlands Landsråd in 1967, but only got 92 votes out of 1666 and could therefore not move into the state council. In 1971 he again missed entry with 129 out of 2,374 votes. In 1975 he ran for one of two seats in the Folketing , but was the last of the four candidates. In 1975 he ran again for the regional council election and this time was able to achieve 702 of 2923 votes. The mandate he achieved was the first and only that the GAS could achieve. While he was initially still a member of the Siumut , he co-founded his own party in 1979, the Sulisartut Partiiat ( German  workers' party) . In the first election for Inatsisartut , however, he received only 155 out of 7,167 votes. In the same year he was not re-elected chairman of the GAS. After a year as vice chairman, he largely left the public. On June 21, 1989 he received the Nersornaat in silver. He died on New Year's Eve 1992 on his 64th birthday.

Ôdâĸ Olsen was the son of pastor Jens John Ingvar Olsen (1894–1966) and his wife Else Rakkel Abelone Fly.

Individual evidence

  1. The name Oodaaq contradicts the Greenlandic orthography in that the alphabet does not contain d and the vowels e and o can only come before q and r . In fact, it is an incorrect spelling for the name Uutaaq. This was the name of an Inuk who accompanied Robert Edwin Peary and Matthew Henson on their North Pole expedition in 1909 .
