Jørgen Klemens Valdemar Frederik Olsen ( Jørgen CF Olsen for short ; born April 1, 1916 in Qerrortusoq , near Sisimiut ; † December 22, 1985 ) was a Greenlandic politician .

Life

Olsen was a hunter in a small now defunct settlement near Sisimiut. In 1932, however, due to his talent, he began to complete a commercial apprenticeship in Sisimiut and then he was trained as a radio operator in Nuuk . Therefore he worked in Sisimiut from 1934 as a radio operator and accountant, from 1943 as a weather observer. In 1944 he founded the local newspaper Piniartoq ( who tries to get something ), which is now called Paortoq ( who delivers mail by kayak ). In 1949 he founded an evening school and a police station . In 1950 he fell ill with tuberculosis and was treated in Denmark until 1953. In 1964 he became the first Greenlandic radio assistant and in 1969 he retired.

In 1942 he was elected to the municipal council of the municipality of Sisimiut and appointed chairman. In 1949 he sat in Grønlands Landsråd as a substitute for Frederik Lennert and then from 1955 to 1979 continuously, before he did not take the first step in the first inatsisartut at the age of 63 . He was represented on a number of committees such as the Greenland Council . He was also chairman of the King Christians X and Queen Alexandrines Foundation and the radio administration. He also served on the board of directors of Grønlands Tekniske Organization .

Olsen was a radical opponent of Danish sovereignty in Greenland. His early struggle for Greenlandic autonomy earned him the reputation of a revolutionary in Denmark , but the nickname Grønlands Lumumba in Greenland . He succeeded in getting Landshøvding Niels Otto Christensen in 1967 to give up part of his government in favor of a speaker of parliament. Erling Høegh became the first parliamentary speaker , later his cousin Lars Chemnitz .

In Sisimiut, Olsenip Aqquserna Street was named after him. There he was made an honorary citizen in 1978 and also honored with a memorial. In 1968 he was made a Knight of the Order of Dannebrog . In 1975 he received the Fortjenstmedaljen in silver.

family

Jørgen Olsen was the son of the catechist Sivert Gustav Simon Olsen (1879–1936) and his wife Rakab Jonasine Ane Bech (1885–1920). Since 1944 he was married to Haggene Andrea Agnes Margrete Poulsen (* 1925) from Atammik , the daughter of Boas Hans Jonathan Poulsen (1902-1936) and his wife Marie Johanne Hansine Lennert (1903-?). Moses Olsen (1938–2008) was his nephew.
