Knud Kristiansen (politician, 1918)

Anthon Bendt Ole Knud Kristiansen (born January 25, 1918 in Kangersuatsiaq , † September 11, 1989 in Upernavik ) was a Greenlandic catechist and councilor .

Knud Kristiansen was the son of the hunter Thimothæus Johan Gustav Kristiansen (1889–?) And his first wife Amalie Sofie Antonette Jensen (1894–1919). He was a cousin of David Kristiansen (1903-1950).

Knud Kristiansen attended secondary school in Aasiaat , where he also trained as a catechist before moving to Upernavik. There he worked as a catechist and head catechist from 1935 to 1985. In 1948 he sat for the first time in the municipality of Upernavik . In 1963 he was elected to the National Council, where he stayed until 1975. From 1975 to 1983 he sat again on the local council. From 1976 to 1979 he was also mayor of Upernavik. In 1984 he was made an honorary citizen of Upernavik. From 1983 to 1986 he was chairman of the senior conference of the Inuit Circumpolar Council . On June 21, 1989, he was awarded the Nersornaat in silver before he died a few weeks later.
