Peter Nielsen (politician)

Peter Simon Isak Nielsen (born September 29, 1905 in Qoornoq ; † unknown ) was a Greenlandic interpreter , translator , judge and councilor .

Life

Peter Nielsen was the son of Adam Klaus Lukas Nielsen (1877–?) And Pernille (1880–?). He studied at Ilinniarfissuaq . From 1927 to 1950 he was an interpreter and assistant to the Governor of North Greenland in Qeqertarsuaq and later an interpreter to the Governor of all of Greenland . He also served as an interpreter for the Danish royal family when they were visiting Greenland. From 1951 to 1975 he was also a district judge in Nuuk . After his retirement he settled in Denmark , graduated in 1978 and worked as a freelancer for the Greenland Ministry .

In 1945, he was first in 1950 to North Greenlandic Provincial elected. In 1949 he was represented by Peter Dalager . At the end of the 1940s he was a member of the Greenland Commission , but was ill for a long time and was represented by Nikolaj Rosing and Frederik Lennert together with Søren Kaspersen, who was also ill . From 1955 to 1959 he was once again a member of the now all-Greenland state council. He was a member of the Inuit party . From 1969 to 1970 he represented the resigned Kaj Narup in the National Council as a representative of the party .

He sat on numerous committees, commissions and supervisory boards, including in Grønlandsudvalg , the spelling committee, the board of directors of the KGH and the party leadership of the Inuit party. Together with Frederik Nielsen , Knud Hertling , Ulloriannguaq Kristiansen and Robert Petersen , he took part in a trip to Canada in 1956 to visit other Inuit peoples .

For his work in the Greenland Commission, he was made Knight of the Order of Dannebrog in 1950. In 1987 he became an honorary member of Atassut in Denmark.
