Augustine "Augo" Telev Nis Lynge [ ˌau̯gɔsˈtiːnus ˈaːɣu ˈtʰelɛf nis ˈløŋə ] (born October 16, 1899 in Qeqertarsuatsiaat ; † January 30, 1959 in the Atlantic at Cape Farvel ) was a Greenlandic politician , teacher and writer .

Life

In 1921 Augo Lynge finished his teaching exams at Grønland's seminarium and continued his education in Jelling and Copenhagen until 1924 . He then taught in Greenland and from 1930 in his training center. From 1930 to 1942 he was a member of the Nuuk Township Council , where he was its chairman from 1934 to 1938. In 1939 he became a member of the Greenland Committee in the Danish Reichstag . From 1948 to 1949 he was a Sysselrat. In 1949 he represented Jørgen Chemnitz in the North Greenland Regional Council before he was elected to the first all- Greenland Regional Council in 1951. In 1953 he was an administrative member of the King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrids Foundation and in the same year was elected to the Folketing together with Frederik Lynge as the first Greenlander .

In 1941 he founded the Youth Association Nunavta ĸitornai (The children of our country) , was 1934 to 1948 a magazine called Tarĸigssut (What brightly lit) out and 1931 a science fiction that plays in the 2021st There were also a large number of zoological , geographical and linguistic textbooks.

In 1952 he was made a knight of the Order of Dannebrog . Augo Lyngip Aqqutaa Street in Nuuk is named after him.

Augo Lynge was considered the most famous Greenland politician of his time. He campaigned for the modernization of his homeland, which he firmly linked to an integration into the Kingdom of Denmark . But he also had to try not to lose the Greenlandic identity.

Lynge died in 1959 on board the ship Hans Hedtoft , which sank during a storm after colliding with an iceberg at Cape Farvel.

Augo Lynge was the son of the catechist Pavia Benediktus Jakob Lynge (1874–1943) and of Bendtea Else Ane Louise Heilmann (1880–?). He was a great-great-grandson of Arent Christopher Heilmann . He married his first cousin in 1925, his second cousin Ketura Bolette Sofia Edel Heilmann (1901–1939), the daughter of Abel Peter Ole Heilmann (1880–?) And Martha Bolette Kristine Holm (1883–1924) and great-great-granddaughter of Jørgen Nielsen Møller . The following children were from this marriage:

In his second marriage, after her death, he married another second cousin of his first wife, Emilie Boletta Mariane Anna Lund (1914–?), Daughter of Peter Frederik Jørgen Kristoffer Lund (1884–1952) and Helga Marie Helene Møller (1896–?) ), Sister of Miilu Lars Lund (1929–2015) and also great-great-granddaughter Jørgen Nielsen Møllers. The children from this marriage are:
