Miilu Lars Lund

"Miilu" Lars Møller Lund (born April 7, 1929 in Nuuk as Hans Therkil Lars Møller Lund ; † January 27, 2015 ) was a Greenlandic Eskimologist .

Life

Miilu was born in Nuuk in 1929 under the name Hans Therkil Lars Møller Lund . He had his first two first names deleted in 1970. His parents were Peter Frederik Jørgen Kristoffer Lund (1884–1952) and Helga Marie Helene Møller (1896–?). Through one of his sisters he was a brother-in-law of Augo Lynge (1899-1959).

He attended Grønland's seminary , where he trained as a catechist and teacher. He later studied Eskimology at the University of Copenhagen . He worked as a teacher at the seminary. Miilu was chairman of the language and spelling committee and so led the work on the Greenland spelling reform in the early 1970s . He worked on the radio show Aperiinnariarit (German: Now just ask! ). In 2008 he published the Greenland spelling dictionary Oqaasersiorfik - kalaallisut oqaatsit isumaat allannissaallu . In 2009 he was awarded the Greenland Culture Prize excellent.

Miilu died in early 2015 at the age of 85. Miilup aqqutaa Street , which leads to Nuuk Prison, was named after him in his honor in 2019 .
