Ole Brandt

Andreas Martin Ole Jakob Brandt (born October 22, 1918 in Imerissoq ; † June 24, 1981 ) was a Greenlandic writer , translator , teacher and state councilor .

Ole Brandt passed his teaching exams at Grønland's seminarium . He then continued his education in Denmark and from then on worked as a teacher in Greenland. From 1955 to 1959 he was a member of the North Greenland State Council. He was also the chairman of the Greenlandic Writers' Association.

His best-known literary work is the Qooqa trilogy , which describes the Greenlandic hunting society in the first half of the 18th century. He also wrote novellas and translated Danish works into Greenlandic.

He was the son of Jens Thomas Karl Brandt (1884–?) And his wife Margrethe Kathrine Kristiane Frederiksen (1886–?). Ole Brandt died on June 24, 1981 and was buried in Aasiaat .

The Ole Brandtip Aqqutaa in Nuuk was named in his honor.
