Jørgen Poulsen (politician, 1920)

Jørgen Johannes Louis Poulsen (born October 15, 1920 in Nanortalik , † October 25, 1973 in the sea near Utoqqarmiut ) was a Greenland state councilor , catechist , teacher and sheep farmer .

Jørgen Poulsen was the son of the head catechist Jakob Hans Gerhardt Isak Poulsen and his wife Dorthe Frederikke Elisabeth Tobiassen.

Jørgen Poulsen trained as a catechist at Grønland's seminarium until 1938 and then worked in southern Greenland. From 1966 he worked as a sheep farmer and from 1972 worked as an assistant teacher in Tasiusaq and Nanortalik.

He was first elected to the National Council from 1963 to 1966. He did not stand for the following regional council, but stood in 1971 as a representative for Marius Abelsen . When he suddenly died in 1972, Jørgen Poulsen replaced him.

On October 25, 1973, he was on a helicopter flight from Nuuk to Paamiut when the helicopter crashed into the sea six kilometers north of Utoqqarmiut , killing all 15 occupants, including Poulsen's colleague Johan Knudsen . Both were replaced by Hendrik Nielsen and Lars Godtfredsen in the Provincial Council for the last two meetings .
