Jørgen Borchersen

Jørgen Borchersen (born April 9, 1917 in Ilulissat , † March 4, 1973 in Qaqortoq ) was a Greenlandic - Danish merchant and councilor .

Life

Jørgen Borchersen was the son of the Danish doctor Hjalmar Mobell Borchersen (1888–?) And the Danish nurse Olga Johanne Margrethe Pedersen (1893–?) Who worked in Greenland. After training in Denmark in 1937, he began to work as a volunteer in many places in West Greenland, one after the other, before he was appointed trade inspector in Ittoqqortoormiit in 1946 . In 1958 he was appointed head of trade in Tasiilaq . As one of only four Danes, Jørgen Borchersen became a member of Grønlands Landsråd in 1963 . He handed over his seat to Harald Ignatiussen in 1966 , as he was appointed head of trade in Qaqortoq, where he finally died in 1973 at the age of 56. In 1968 he was made a Knight of the Order of Dannebrog .
