Ricard Petersen

Ricard "Rikka" Peter Jens Rosing Petersen (also Richard Peter Jens Rosing Petersen ; born April 11, 1931 in Kangaamiut ; † June 14, 2014 ) was a Greenlandic pastor , provost , catechist , teacher and councilor .

Life

Ricard Petersen was born on April 11, 1931 in Kangaamiut in what is now the Maniitsoq district. Until 1952 he trained as a teacher and catechist at Grønland's seminary . He then worked as a teacher in Ilulissat and moved to Aasiaat in 1955 . In 1956 he worked as a catechist in Qaanaaq and from 1958 as head catechist in Ilulissat. From 1959 he attended universities in Denmark and Ilulissat and was then ordained in Nuuk in 1965 after visiting the Pastoralseminariet in Copenhagen and worked in Qasigiannguit that same year , but returned to Ilulissat in 1973. In 1980 he became Provost in the Provsteqarfik Qeqqa Tunulu , which is responsible for the parishes Nuuk, Maniitsoq , Sisimiut , Qaanaaq, Tasiilaq and Ittoqqortoormiit . From 1993 to 1996 he was provost of the cathedral .

Ricard Petersen was also politically active. From 1959 to 1964 he was vice-chairman of the council of the Ilulissat municipality and then that of the Qasigiannguit municipality . He was also a member of Grønlands Landsråd from 1963 to 1967, but was represented by Marius Sivertsen during the first meeting in 1965 . On September 7, 2005 he received the Nersornaat in silver.

After serving in the church, he retired in Humlebæk and Aalborg in Denmark and died on June 14, 2014 at the age of 83.

He was the son of the Udsteds administrator and regional councilor Ole Levi Albrekt Petersen (1894–1979) and his wife Marie Karoline Jakobine Rosing (1898–1980). His brothers were the university rector Hans Christian Petersen (1925-2015) and the Eskimologist Robert Petersen (* 1928). Through his mother he was a cousin of Nikolaj Rosing (1912–1976). She was also a cousin of Peter Rosing (1892-1965) and his brother Otto Rosing (1896-1965). He was of Danish, Norwegian and Greenlandic descent. Among his ancestors were Arent Christopher Heilmann and Frederik Diderik Sechmann Fleischer .
