history

In 1918 there were 25 residents who lived in three houses. Among the residents were six hunters who made their living mainly from seal hunts. There was no school building and the children were taught by one of the hunters without training in his home.

Between 1930 and 1947, 29 to 43 people lived in Utoqqarmiut. The population subsequently fell until Utoqqarmiut was abandoned in 1962.

A helicopter crashed six kilometers north-northwest of Utoqqarmiut in 1973 , killing fifteen people.
