Qaarusuk [ qɑːʁusuk ] (the old spelling K'ârusuk ) is a desolate fallen Greenlandic settlement in the district Nuuk in Sermersooq .
location
Qaarusuk is located on the south coast of the island of Qoornup Qeqertarsua (Bjørneøen). Before Qaarusuk runs the Qaarusuup Imaa , which connects the Nuup Kangerlua with the Qoornup Sullua and separates Qoornup Qeqertarsua from Sermitsiaq (Sadelø). The closest location is Nuuk 27 km southwest.
history
Qaarusuk was first mentioned in 1777. From 1911 Qaarusuk belonged to the Godthaab community. In 1918, twelve people lived in a single house on the residential area, including six hunters and a fisherman who made their living from hunting beluga, seals and foxes and fishing in winter. The population probably increased somewhat in the 1920s, but in 1929 Qaarusuk was abandoned.
