Neriunaq [ nɜˈʁiunɑq ] (according to the old spelling Neriunaĸ ) is a Greenlandic shepherd's settlement in the Nuuk district in the Sermersooq municipality .

location

Neriunaq is at the end of the Kapisillit Kangerluat . On the opposite side of the fjord lies Kapisillit .

history

At the place of Neriunaq there used to be the Illorsuit residence . Around 1940 nine people moved to this place and twelve people a little further south, where Neriunaq is today. In 1941 there were fifteen residents in Illorsuit and seventeen in Neriunaq. From 1943 both places were counted together as Neriunaq. In 1947 there were 52 people living there and in 1950 already 74. In the same year a school was built in Neriunaq. Nevertheless, the population fell sharply in the next few years and in 1960 only sixteen people lived in Neriunaq. In 1970 there were only nine left. In 1983 the last resident left the place. Neriunaq has been used as a shepherd's settlement since 1992, which is by far the northernmost shepherd's settlement in Greenland and the only one outside the municipality of Kujalleq .

Population development

By 1980 Neriunaq had about two residents. The settlement was then uninhabited for several years. Today around five to seven people live here again. The last known population of the shepherd settlements was for 2013. Neriunaq is statistically listed under “Farms near Kapisillit”.
