Kangerluarsussuaq [ kaˈŋɜɬːuɑˌsːusːuɑq ] (according to the old spelling Kangerdluarssugssuaĸ ; Danish Grædefjorden ) is a deserted Greenlandic settlement in the Nuuk district in the Sermersooq municipality .

location

Kangerluarsussuaq is located on the mainland west coast at the mouth of the eponymous fjord . Kangerluarsussuaq is located 102 km south of Nuuk and 32 km northwest of Qeqertarsuatsiaat .

history

Kangerluarsussuaq was probably settled by residents of the northern residential area Qilanngarmiut . They were originally evangelized by the Moravian Brethren . In the 19th century Kangerluarsussuaq was an Udsted , but obviously not anymore. From 1911 the residential area belonged to the municipality of Fiskenæsset.

In 1918, 51 people lived in seven houses at the living space. There was a 33-square-meter school chapel where an untrained catechist taught. The residents, which included eight hunters, made a living from hunting whales, seals, foxes and reindeer.

In 1926 it was proposed in Grønlands Landsråd to fish for and sell cod in the fjord. In 1927 the proposal was rejected because it was believed that there was not enough fish in the fjord. Nevertheless, a 49 m² fish house was built later. In 1950 Kangerluarsussuaq became part of the new Nuuk parish . In 1952 three fishermen lived in Kangerluarsussuaq. A school was built in 1946, but the place was abandoned in 1956.
