Qooqqut [ ˈqɔːqːutˢʰ ] (according to the old spelling K'ôrĸut ) is a deserted, fallen Greenlandic settlement in the Nuuk district in the communeqarfik Sermersooq .

location

Qooqqut is on the north bank of a small fjord of the same name . The Nissik River flows past Qooqqut . Qooqqut is located 41 km east of Nuuk and 36 km southwest of Kapisillit .

history

Qooqqut was founded in 1974 by Lars Rasmussen, a grandson of Knud Rasmussen , when he built his hotel Qooqqut Nuan here. The hotel burned down completely twice in 15 years before Lars Rasmussen gave it up. It now serves as a restaurant. The Qooqqut Festival , a cultural festival operated by Katuaq , has been taking place in Qooqqut since 2015 .

Population development

Qooqqut had a maximum of five residents until 1983. After that, nobody lived in the village for three years. Subsequently, with the exception of 1997, Qooqqut was again inhabited by one or two people. The place has fallen desolate since 2003.
