Uugarsiorfik [ uːɣɑsːiˌɔfːik ] (the old spelling Ûgarsiorfik ) is a desolate fallen Greenlandic settlement in the district Nuuk in Sermersooq .

location

Uugarsiorfik is located in a very rugged area at Uugarsiorfiup Sullua , the estuary of the Kaannaatsoq fjord . The closest location is Qeqertarsuatsiaat 16 km southeast.

history

Uugarsiorfik was first mentioned in 1886 and was therefore settled before that. From 1911 Uugarsiorfik belonged to the municipality of Fiskenæsset.

In 1918 there were 35 residents who lived in three houses. The population originally belonged to the Moravian Brethren . Among the residents were three hunters and a fisherman and an untrained catechist. As usual, the population lived from hunting. In the 1910s, the seal hunt was particularly profitable compared to the surrounding area.

The number of residents fell steadily in the following decades until the last 15 residents left the residential area in 1943 and thus gave up.
