Saarloq [ ˈsɑːɬːɔq ] (according to the old spelling Sârdloĸ ) is a desolate Greenlandic settlement in the Nuuk district in the Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq .

location

Saarloq is located on the northwest bank of the Nuup Kangerlua 22 km north of Nuuk in the Akia (Nordlandet) area.

history

Hans Egedes is said to have lived there in Saarloq even at the time . In 1875 the living space was also mentioned. According to Det Grønlandske Atlas , Saarloq was uninhabited in 1901 and was only repopulated afterwards. From 1911 Saarloq belonged to the Godthaab community.

In 1918 there were 34 residents who lived in four houses. The residents, nine of whom were hunters, made a living mainly from hunting whales and reindeer and, to a lesser extent, seals and foxes. In 1875 twice as many seals had been caught. One of the hunters worked as an untrained catechist.

A school chapel and fish house were probably built in Saarloq at the end of the 1930s. Between 1930 and 1950, between 44 and 64 people lived in Saarloq. In 1950 Saarloq became part of the new municipality of Nuuk , but only a year later the residential area was given up.
