Hendrik Nielsen

Hendrik Nielsen (born June 1, 1942 in Saarloq ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Siumut ).

Life

Hendrik Nielsen, who was born in Saarloq but grew up in Alluitsup Paa , is the son of Provincial Councilor Jakob Nielsen (1910–1985) and his wife Marie "Mâliâraĸ" Dorph († 1978). Hendrik married the economist Dorthe (* 1950) on April 26, 1980.

Hendrik Nielsen attended the Efterskole in Qaqortoq from 1957 to 1959 and trained as a fisherman from 1965 to 1966. He ran for the first time in 1971 for election to Grønlands Landsråd , but was not elected. In 1974, however, he moved up with Lars Godtfredsen because the two members Johan Knudsen and Jørgen Poulsen were killed in a helicopter crash with 15 dead on October 25, 1973 40 km south of Nuuk . From 1969 to 1983 he was the main administrative member of the party-like fishermen and hunters' association KNAPK and was also elected to the last regional council in 1975. He was then elected to the first Inatsisartut for the Siumut in 1979 and re-elected in 1983, 1984 and 1987. From 1980 to 1983 he was both the City Council Qaqortoq, as well as the council of the municipality of Qaqortoq . For the one-year legislative period from 1983 to 1984 he was Minister for Settlements, Labor Market and Youth and remained so in the next. He was also on the board of directors of KGH and on the supervisory board of Grønlands Tekniske Organization from 1975 to 1982. On November 29, 1990, he was awarded the Nersornaat in silver . In the late seventies, Nielsen had repeatedly suggested that Greenland should have its own flag, which, in response to his efforts, was finally fulfilled by Thue Christiansen in 1985 .
