Simon Olsen (politician, 1879)

Sivert Gustav Simon Olsen (* July 6, 1879 in Sisimiut ; † July 24, 1936 there ) was a Greenlandic catechist and councilor .

Life

Simon Olsen was the son of the hunter Jørgen Ole Tønnes Jokum Olsen (1852–?) And his wife Kirstine Bodil Benedikta Absalonsen (1854–?). One of his brothers was Seth Eli Johan Olsen , who was also a member of the National Council. Simon Olsen married Rakab Jonasine Ane Bek (1885-1920) in Itilleq on October 17, 1909, his first marriage. The following children were born from this marriage:

  • Elisabeth Flavia Dorthe Olsen (born October 19, 1910 in Itilleq)
  • Kirsten Inger Mette Olsen (born May 23, 1912 in Itilleq)
  • Jørgen Klemens Valdemar Frederik Olsen (born April 1, 1916 in Qerrortusoq )
  • Isak Kristian Hans Olsen (born December 17, 1917 in Qerrortusoq)
  • Søren Tønnes Samuel Olsen (born October 26, 1920 in Qerrortusoq)

His wife died on the day their last child was born. Simon Olsen then married the widow Juliane Mette Maria Absalonsen, born on December 26, 1921 in Sisimiut. Fabriciusen (1876–1922), who died about two weeks later on her way back from Qerrortusoq. Her body was only discovered frozen and buried the following fall. Simon Olsen finally married the third marriage on September 6, 1925 in Sisimiut, the widow Jakobine Mette Rosa Olsen, nee. Lennert (1894–?). From this marriage were born:

  • Elisabeth Sesilie Akisôĸ Olsen (born March 8, 1926 in Sisimiut)
  • Seth Hansen Tønnes Olsen (born July 11, 1927 in Sisimiut)
  • Ane Marie Hansine Kirstine (born July 9, 1929 in Sisimiut)

Simon Olsen worked as a catechist and fisherman and sat in Sydgrønlands Landsråd during the legislative period from 1923 to 1926 . He died in 1936 at the age of 57. His son Jørgen later sat on the state council for about a quarter of a century. He was also the grandfather of Moses Olsen through his eldest daughter .
