Henning Jakob Henrik Lund (nickname Intalêraĸ ( little Henrik ); born September 29, 1875 in Nanortalik , † June 17, 1948 in Narsaq ) was a Greenlandic poet , pastor , catechist , missionary , painter , composer and councilor .

Life

Henrik Lund trained as a catechist at Grønland's seminary until 1897 . After a stay in Denmark, from 1899 he worked as a catechist in the uncolonized eastern part of Greenland, which was populated by only a few Tunumiit . He helped Frederik Carl Peter Rüttel in the missionary work of the East Greenlanders. In 1910 he returned to South Greenland and was chief catechist in several villages around Qaqortoq . From 1918 he worked in Narsaq. From 1923 to 1932 he sat for two terms in the National Council for Narsaq. In 1936, he was in Copenhagen for Pastor ordained and worked as such until his death in Narsaq.

He was active as a painter and poet since the beginning of the 1920s and is famous for his text of Nunarput utoqqarsuanngoravit , the official Greenlandic national anthem , written in 1912 . He wrote psalms and religious songs, but above all poems, some political, some national identity and those about new opportunities in Greenland. His works have a style similar to that of Hans Adolph Brorson and Bernhard Severin Ingemann . He also wrote a “city anthem” for Narsaq called Putsut tamaani ( Here is your mist ). He was named Dannebrogsmand in 1921 and was awarded the Ingenio et arti Medal of Merit in 1947 .

Henrik Lund was the son of the Christian catechist Peter Jens Severin Isak Lund (1848–1922) and his wife Athalie Sophie Margrethe Christiane Hansen (1845–1919). His parents were married on August 20, 1874 in Qaqortoq . He was a great-great-grandson of Peter Hanning Motzfeldt (1774–1835) and Anders Olsen (1718–1786). One of his cousins ​​was Johan Petersen (1867–1960), a pioneer in eastern Greenland. Their common uncle was Johannes "Hansêraĸ" Hansen (1837–1911). He married Karoline Malene Justine Haldora Egede (1877–1979) in Qaqortoq on April 23, 1899. His wife was the first person in Greenland to be proven to be over a hundred years old, and she is still considered to be the second oldest Greenlandic person of all time. The couple had the following children:
