Jørgen Niels Henrik Hans Lynge (born September 6, 1937 in Qaqortoq ) is a Greenlandic journalist , translator and musician .

Life

Niels Henrik Lynge is the older son of the writer Hans Lynge (1906–1988) and his wife Marie Louise Mathilde Lund (1904–1996). His mother was the daughter of the poet Henrik Lund (1875–1948) and Karoline Malene Justine Haldora Egede (1878–1979). His paternal grandfather is Niels Lynge (1880–1965). Niels Henrik's younger brother is the politician Torben Emil Lynge (* 1940). The writer Nauja Lynge (* 1965) is his niece. He is married to the politician Laannguaq Lynge geb. Vahl (* 1943), with whom he has three sons: Pavia Josef (* 1967), Mads David (* 1970) and Hans Kristian (* 1971).

Niels Henrik Lynge grew up in Qaqortoq, Narsaq , Maniitsoq and Denmark . From 1954 to 1958 he attended secondary school, began to study in Frederiksberg and was then trained at the Danish Journalism University. At the invitation of Kristoffer Lynge he started to work in the Danish department of Kalaallit Nunaata Radioa (KNR), where he did broadcasts. In 1972 he was employed in Greenland, where, among other things, he informed the population about the EC membership referendum in Greenland in 1982 . Until 1982 he worked as a program employee for the subjects of music, culture and nature. In 1979 he headed the newly founded regional radio station KNR Kujataata Radioa. From 1986 he worked as a television journalist at KNR. There, too, he focused on the topics of culture and nature. He worked as a foreign reporter and shot television programs from all over North America, but also from the Galápagos Islands , Pakistan and Australia , for example . His programs were extremely popular in Greenland.

In 2004 he retired after more than 30 years of radio and television activity, but stayed with the KNR on a voluntary basis and worked as a translator from English into Greenlandic, but also wrote songs.

On December 28, 2004, Niels Henrik Lynge received the Nersornaat in silver for his work . In 2011 he received the government's environmental and nature prize for his educational work in favor of environmental awareness in Greenlanders. In 2017 he was awarded the Greenland Culture Prize.
