Nauja Nørgård Lynge [ ˈnaːja ˈnœɐ̯gɔɐ̯ˀ ˈløŋə ] (born January 21, 1965 in Aarhus ) is a Greenlandic - Danish writer .

Life

Nauja Lynge was born in 1965 as the eldest daughter of Torben Emil Lynge (* 1940) and a Danish woman in Aarhus, Denmark. Through her father, she is the niece of Niels Henrik Lynge (* 1937), the granddaughter of Hans Lynge (1906–1988) and the great-granddaughter of Henrik Lund (1875–1948). A year after she was born, the family moved to the Greenland capital Nuuk . When she was eight, her parents divorced and she and her mother moved back to Denmark, where they settled in Horsens . She is divorced and has three children.

Confronted with the prejudices about Greenlanders in Denmark, she distanced herself from her origins at an early stage and saw herself as a pure Danish woman. It wasn't until the age of 37 that this began to change and she founded a company that makes Greenlandic clothing. To her regret, she was no longer able to return to Greenland, partly because she lacked the language skills and because she was no longer welcome there. Instead, she began to campaign for the Rigsfællesskabet through letters to the editor and lectures . In 2012 she published the debate book Rigsfællesskabet til debat (Rigsfællesskabet on the debate). In 2017 she published her debut novel Ivalu's color in English , which links a crime story to the controversial issue of Greenlandic independence. Her novella Welcome to my dream appeared in Arctic magazine that same year . In 2018 she published the autobiographical debate book Jeg er Nauja , the foreword of which was written by the former Danish Minister Bertel Haarder .
