General election in Greenland in 1967
On April 28, 1967, elections to Grønlands Landsråd were held for the fifth time . The number of eligible voters was 19,184; voter turnout rose significantly to 62.0%.
Suffrage
In each of the 16 constituencies, there were two to seven candidates for election, of which the candidate with the highest number of votes ( relative majority ) was elected. In addition, a compensation mandate could be obtained for a party or list if their candidates together achieved more than one sixteenth of the valid votes cast. However, as in the previous elections, most of the candidates were independent individual candidates.
Starting position
In Landsråd, elected in Greenland in 1963, there were 16 independent members who were elected by majority vote in the same number of constituencies. Landshøvding Greenland's Niels Otto Christensen chaired the National Council for the last time , but without being a member of parliament himself.
Participating parties and lists
In addition to the independent candidates, four different parties or lists stood for election:

List results
In order to receive a compensation mandate, a list had to receive more than 725 votes. That was true of the Inuit party . Thus, their most elected candidate, Thomas Berthels, was elected. All other parties and lists remained below the required number of 725 votes.
consequences
For the first time in the history of Grønlands Landsråd, a compensation mandate was awarded, so that in addition to 16 independent members from the constituencies, a candidate from a political association (Inuit party) was given a seat in parliament. Only six out of seventeen MPs sat in parliament in the previous term and were re-elected.
From 1951 until the beginning of the legislative period in 1967, Landshøvding Greenland was the chairman of the National Council. In the constituent meeting after the election, Erling Høegh was elected for the first time from among its own ranks at the instigation of Landshøvding Niels Otto Christensen .
