In the parliamentary elections in Greenland in 1984 on June 6th, all 25 seats in the Inatsisartut or Landsting, the Greenlandic parliament , had to be filled. Previously, the Inatsisartut consisted of 26 seats. The last election took place a year earlier. So it is an early election.

Starting position

Less than a year after the last parliamentary election, the Inuit Ataqatigiit withdrew its support from the government led by Jonathan Motzfeldt . The Motzfeldt II cabinet, made up of six party members from Siumut, no longer had an absolute majority in parliament, so new elections were necessary.

Result

The social democratic party Siumut and the right-wing liberal Atassut became the strongest faction in Inatsisartut, followed by the Inuit Ataqatigiit .
