The Motzfeldt II cabinet was the second government in Greenland . It was formed after the 1983 election to the Inatsisartut .

Emergence

While the Siumut still held the absolute majority in parliament with 13 of 21 seats in the Inatsisartut election in 1979, the Atassut was now able to gain the most votes. However, Siumut and Atassut each achieved twelve seats, two went to the Inuit Ataqatigiit, who was moving in for the first time . Since a coalition between the conservative Atassut and the left Inuit Ataqatigiit was ruled out, Prime Minister Jonathan Motzfeldt gave upannounced on the morning after the election that it would hold talks with the Atassut to form a grand coalition with 24 out of 26 seats, as well as with the Inuit Ataqatigiit for a narrower majority. On May 1, it was announced that the Siumut would enter into a coalition with the Inuit Ataqatigiit, although the latter would not receive any ministerial posts. The next day Motzfeldt announced the ministerial posts, which were finally elected on May 3rd.
